چکیده

The estuarine zone is an area of strong interaction between fresh and salty water. Dynamics in these areas is complex due to the interaction of the forcing mechanisms such as wind, tides, local coastal currents and river discharges. The difference of density between fresh water and salted water causes the formation of the buoyant plumes which have been investigated by means of numerical models and field studies. Plumes play a significant role in the transport of pollutants and the ecology in the frontal areas where density gradients are strong. Therefore, in order to investigate the horizontal and vertical dispersion of salinity and temperature the YAXUM/3D baroclinic numerical model was developed. The model is validated and applied for two particular cases. The first one consist of modeling the discharge of a jet of hot water where the gradients of temperature prevail and the second to study the discharge of the mouth of the estuary Leschenault toward the Koombana bay, Australia where salinity gradients are analyzed. The results derived from the YAXUM/3D are satisfactory and in agreement to with other models which have been already validated.

Modeling the impact of atmospheric and terrestrial inputs on the Black Sea coastal dynamics

The dynamics on the North Western Shelf area of the Black Sea are examined, with an emphasis on the circulation induced by buoyancy due to the land drained fresh waters and by the interaction with the atmosphere, notably wind stress. A three-dimensional, multi-layer hydrodynamic model is employed with realistic topography and parameterisation of river plume physics. We focus on the seasonal pat...

Mesoscale Variability in the Labrador Sea

My immediate objective is to understand the interactions between convection and mesoscale circulation, in order to quantify the in uence of convective events on the large scale circulation. Such interactions include: (a) The lateral mixing generated by baroclinic instability and geostrophic eddy interactions. How e cient are lateral mixing processes in convective regions? Can these processes ac...

Investigation of changes in biochemical and blood parameters of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) for breeding in saline water

Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the compatibility of rainbow trout fish with biochemical and blood parameters in waters with a salinity range of 0-20 gram per liter order to allow the introduction and development of this species in different aquatic environments with different salinity levels. Baby fish from a cold water factory in Mazandaran province were transported to t...

Role of estuarine natural processes in removal of trace metals under emergency situations

Estuaries are well known for their potential in removing metal from fresh water to provide micro-nutrients to aquatic life. In the present investigation, we have tried to bring out the metal removal potential of estuaries during accidental spills. For this purpose artificial river water containing high concentration of Mn, Cu, Zn, Ni and Pb were mixed with sea water at different salinity regime...

Summer-time Co2 Fluxes and Carbonate System Behavior in the Mississippi River and Orinoco River Plumes

High-resolution underway measurements of surface water pH, CO2 fugacity (fCO2), and total dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), along with discrete bottle sample analyses from depths, were obtained in July 2005 and September 2006 in the Mississippi River Plume (MRP) and the Orinoco River Plume (MRP). The resulting data were analyzed to compare and contrast the CO2 fluxes and carbonate system behavi...
